Design registration

Also called: Design win registration · Opportunity registration · Deal registration

A distributor registers an engineering or sales opportunity to claim protected pricing on business they developed.

Registration rewards the partner who did the design-in or development work by giving them a protected price on that socket, preventing another partner from winning the business purely on price.

Registrations have expiry dates, and this is where they leak: the design cycle ends, the competitive pressure that justified the price disappears, but the authorisation is never closed and the partner keeps claiming against it. Five to twelve percent of active authorisations being claimed past expiry is a common finding, and it exists purely because no system enforces the date.
